This year in resource Language Arts beginning at 10:19 am, we will be using the Corrective Reading program which is designed to improve each child’s reading level, fluency, and comprehension. Daily activities will generally include reading aloud and answering questions to show understanding of the text. Their books and materials will remain at school and very little to no formal homework will be assigned. That being said, I am asking your help to encourage your child to find books and stories they will enjoy reading while at home or in their spare time at school. Each student will have the opportunity to have free uninterrupted reading (F.U.R) for 20 minutes every morning and finding a book they can enjoy is vital for a positive reading experience. Working together we can help each child improve their reading skills and learn to love reading! Update: September 26, 2016 Over the next few weeks, between continuing our Corrective Reading lessons, we will be reading the novel "The Westing Game," by Ellen Reskin. In this young-adult murder mystery A bizarre chain of events begins when sixteen unlikely people gather for the reading of Samuel W. Westing’s will. And though no one knows why the eccentric, game-loving millionaire has chosen a virtual stranger—and a possible murderer—to inherit his vast fortune, on things for sure: Sam Westing may be dead…but that won’t stop him from playing one last game! While reading this, we will be learning about and analyzing the settings and characterization. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. |
This year in resource math, beginning at 2:08 pm, we will be working with a program called Transmath which covers mathematical ideas at a modified level and pace. It is important for students to try their best and we will work together to help them reach grade-level math by the end of middle school. I am excited to work with this program and feel it breaks down each math principle into more understandable ideas. I am also planning on incorporating real life math situations into our lessons so that students can see how they can use math every day. Math materials may remain at school and small amounts of homework may be assigned. Update: September 26, 2016 Starting Monday, we will beginning learning about finding common denominators in fractions as well as learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions through our Transmath program. Starting Monday the students will also receive a homework worksheet to continue their practice with multiplication tables. I will hand out the each homework sheet each Monday and it will be due by that Friday. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.Thank you for your support. |
